Abstract

7313. O'Donnell, J. P., [Mead, W. T.]. April 9. Points and switches.-Relates to detector bar apparatus of the kind in which a single detector bar, or an interconnected series of bars, is employed for controlling two switch movements. Fig. 1 shows the application of the invention to a double slip switch for opening either of the roads A, B to either of the roads A', B<1>. The switch points are connected by the bridles v, v<2>, v<0>, v<02> to the operating-bars w, w<0>, which are operated by pneumatic power through the cylinders Y, Y<1> and the slotted motion plates Z, Z<1>. Any suitable point locking-mechanism may be employed, such, for example, as that described in Specification No. 183, A.D. 1900. The various detector bars shown are disposed in known arrangement, and are connected by the rods d<0> to the rocking shafts Z<2>, Z<3>, these shafts being connected together by the arms Z<02>, Z<03>, and the link Z<04>. The arms Z<20>, Z<30>, Fig. 2, on the rocking shafts are connected by links z<20>, z<30> to the rollers z<4>, z<5>, which work in the slots t, t<1>, t<2> in the guide-blocks T, T<1>. The rollers z<4>, z<5> are also connected by the rods z<2>, z<3> to the motion plates Z, Z<1>. In shifting, say, the right-hand set of points from the position shown, the rod Z<3> moves the roller z<5> along the slot t, first depressing and then raising the arm Z<30>, as indicated in dotted lines, and so operating the detector bars. During this movement of the arm Z<30>, the arm Z<20> is also rocked through an equal angle, but, as the roller z' is over one or other of the vertical end slots t<1>, t<2>, and is free to move therein, the movement of the arm Z<20> can take place without undue strain on the connections, and without affecting any of the other mechanisms. The detector bars are first raised until their supporting-links are vertical, and are then returned to their original position, instead of being thrown over until the links are in the oppositely-inclined position.
