Description
No. 678,9l8. Patented July 23, I90l. W.. TIMM. RAM MACHINE FOR PAVING.
(Application filed. Jan. '7, 1901.)
(No Model.)
AZ'Zornef YHE NORmS vzrzns ca. mo'mumou wxsmnnrou. n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT WQFFICEQ WILHELM TIMM, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
RAM-MACHINE FOR PAVING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 678,918, dated July 23, 1901. Application filed January 7, 1901- Serial No. 42 419. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILHELM TIMM, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of N. O. WVinsstrasse 7, Berlin, Germany, have invented a Ram-Machine for Paving, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a ram for paving, which by transmission of lever motion and rope or chains pulling is moved up and down, and thereby effectuates the ramming of the paving-stones.
The annexed drawing represents the apparatus partly in section and partly in plain view.
The construction of the apparatus is as follows: A tube a, of cast or of wrought iron, is mounted on four feet I), each of these feet being provided with a roll a, which is turning around itself and around a pivot z in such way that these rolls are forced to accommodate to any moving direction given to the apparatus when it is moved on. In the tube a, the ramblock proper, e, is guided and by means of ropes or chains i is fastened to the shorter arms of two or more scalenous levers d, swinging around pivot h, and drawing ropes or chains 0 are fastened to the longer arms of the levers d. These ropes or chains 0 run over rolls 7", fastened to the tube a, and are provided at their ends with two or more handles g. For lengthening or shortening the transfer of lever motion the ropes or chains may be fastened to the levers d in a longer or a shorter distance from the axis of the apparatus.
The handling of the apparatus is very simple. The apparatus is carried on the paving which is to be rammed. Then two or more workmen by means of handles g and chains or ropes o draw downward the levers 61 into the position indicated on the drawing by dotted lines, and thereby the ram-block e in the tube a will be lifted on high. By any sudden relax of the chains or ropes 0 the ram-block e will fall down, and thereby operate the ramming and fastening of the paving-stones.
On the tube a may be arranged laterally two handles for being used when the apparatus is pushed forward. By means of an adequate pulling on the ropes or chains the stroke of the ram-block e on the paving-stones may at will be made either feebler or stronger.
By grasping together the handles g one man will suffice to work the apparatus.
I claim-- A ram-machine for the use of paving, con sisting of a tube supported by feet which are provided with rolls, in combination with a ram-block movable in this tube, and with double-armed levers on fast supports, each of these levers, being on its inside end fas= tened by chain or rope to the ram-block, and on the outside ends provided with drawing ropes or chains for moving the lever said ropes or chains being guided over rolls and having handles on the .ends thereof and by which drawing chains or ropes, when pulled downward, the ram-block will be lifted, and
by the relax of these chains or ropes will be made to drop down, as described and repre sented.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
WILHELM TIMM. Witnesses:
WOLDEMAR HAUPT, HENRY HASPER.
