Abstract

6884. Hudson, C. E. April 2. Casings for rudder chains, rods, and the like.- Relates to protecting covers or casings for steam pipes, water pipes, rods, chains, wire ropes, or electric wires on ships. The pipe a, or article to be protected, is supported in a cradle, carrier, or basket c, which is constructed to hold an angleiron covering b. One side d of the cradle is bulbshaped, while the other side f projects and receives an iron or wood wedge e to fix the angle-iron covering. The wedge e may be of various shapes, or may be replaced by bolts, as shown in Fig. 3. A covering or protecting top-plate may also be employed, being bolted to the cradle or bracket. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement for bolting under decks, and Fig. 8 an angle-iron j pushed into slots k and fixing the protecting-iron b. For covering pipes &c. fixed vertically, the angle-irons surround the pipes &c. and are bolted to the deck by means of horizontal flanges projecting outwards.
