Abstract
6340. Thompson, W. P., [Perfect Sliding Door Co.]. March 26. Door-opening apparatus; door checks.-Relates to mechanism for opening automatic sliding doors, which is actuated by treads on each side of the door. The general arrangement of the mechanism is shown in Fig. 1. The weight of a person approaching the door acting upon a tread G pushes down the lever K, the free end of which is connected to the rod I at I<1>. A lever C in a recess in the door post is pivoted at c<1>, and its free end c bears against the edge of the sliding door A running on the inclined rail B. When the rod I is pulled down by the tread G, the lever C is turned into a position such as shown by dotted lines, thereby pushing back and opening the door. A spring J raises the rod I when the pressure is removed from the tread, thus allowing the door to close. Too rapid closing is checked by air enclosed in the socket beneath the tread G, the air being admitted to the socket by a non-return valve. The rod I may be connected to the lever C by a toothed rack and segment, or it may be connected by a pivot near the fulcrum.
