Abstract

5969. Dickey, W. E. March 21. Water-tube boilers for motor cars &c. A number of close-ended tubes of different lengths project radially inward from an annular water and steam space which consists of inner and outer shells secured together by flanged joints and bolts. The outer shell may be removed to give access to the interior of the boiler and tubes, for cleaning or repairing. The tubes are arranged relatively to one another in the manner shown in Fig. 3. The upper tubes serve for superheating the steam. The boiler is heated by burners g, fed with vaporized petroleum or other suitable liquid fuel, which is supplied through a pipe p exposed to the heat of the flames. The pipe p rises vertically through the central space of the boiler, descends in a helical coil enveloping the vertical pipe, and spreads in a flat conical spiral immediately over the burners. A primary heating-burner (not shown) fed from the vertical pipe direct, is centrally placed below the helical coil to vaporize the liquid fuel at starting. The burners g are fitted with double coneshaped valves i with screw-adjustment as shown.
