3943. Anderson, E. Feb. 23. Acetylene. - Relates to acetylene generators of the class in which the supply of water to the generating- chamber is controlled by the movements of the gas holder. The essential feature consists in connecting the outlet from the water reservoir to the gas-holder bell, so that the said outlet is raised and lowered with the bell above and below the water level in the reservoir. In the arrangement shown, a flexible tube g is connected at one end with the water reservoir f, and at the other with an open-ended tube h, carried by the bell i and dipping into a water seal contained in a surrounding tube j closed at its lower end. The carbide is carried in receptacles d arranged at different heights on a removable support e suspended from the wall of the generating-chamber c, and this chamber is provided at the bottom with a funnel-shaped outlet x to facilitate the removal of sludge. A pipe l conveys the gas from the holder to the purifier. The Provisional Specification describes an alternative arrangement, in which water is supplied to the generator from a vessel mounted on trunnions and actuated by the gas holder bell, so as to bring the delivery spout alternately above and below the water level in the reservoir.
