Abstract
3919. Fiddler, J. E., Purcell, S., and Burnford, H. St. J. Feb. 23. Picks; axes; hammers; handles.-The heads c of picks, axes, hammers, &c. are fixed to the handle socket a by a wedge f, which passes through the eye of the tool and enters a groove or channel in the socket. The wedge may have a head f and a spring tongue g with a projection h to fit into the hole g<1>. Fig. 5 shows a form in which a broad wedge f<2> is used, the wedge fitting into a channel in the shoulder d. Fig. 7 shows another form, in which the wedge f<3> is held by a screw j as shown.
