Abstract
2198. Watson, B. H. Feb. 1. Tea.-Fig. 1 shows a front elevation of a tea mill. The cutting-roller shafts F are flattened near their outer ends to enter similarly-shaped bores on the spur-wheels M, which are driven by the pinion N. When any foreign body, such as a nail, attempts to pass between the knife A and the cutting-roller, the disc B is turned against the pressure of the adjustable brake T, the end of the lever G slips out of the recess C, and the knife moves sufficiently to allow the body to pass. At the same time the spring L pulls the arm K inwards, so that the bent lever D falls into the path of the tappets E on one of the spur-wheels M, so that the knife is raised into position and the disc B turned back till the end of the lever G enters the recess C. The levers G are maintained in position by means of the springs H adjustably secured to the bolts V. The catches i engage movable latches J, which are drawn towards one another by the spring S. By removing a slide at one end of the mill, the rollers can be withdrawn, and the gear-wheels M are then held in position by the plates P, which are shaped to enter grooves in bosses cast at the back of each wheel.
