1786. Voet, C. Jan. 25. Air, supplying.-The pressure of the wind, or the atmospheric pressure due to motion in the case of ships and locomotives, is utilized for forced draught in steam-boiler furnaces. Figs. 1 and 2 show the application to a marine boiler. The air enters collecting-heads f, and is conducted to a chest b in front of the ashpit. The inclined front k may be hinged to form a door. The air is heated in passing through or beside the smoke-box, or it may be heated by leading the pipes through the flues. In the case of a stationary boiler, the heads may be arranged to set themselves automatically against the wind.
