Abstract

1158. Levy, A. Jan. 17. Medicines, administering ; catheters ; massage.- Relatesto instruments for administering medicaments and for internal massage. Fig. 2 sbows a form resembling a catheter for use in the male urethra, consisting of a hollow soft rubber tube provided with a series of capillary tubes c and closed at the end d. It is inserted by means of a silver wire placed in the bore b. In a catheter for the uterus, Fig. 4, a knob e is provided to gauge the distance it has penetrated into the uterus. Fig. 6 shows a form having a flattened end intended for use in the nasal cavities. In use, the capillaries are filled with the medicament, and after insertion the instrument is massaged against the walls of the cavity, so as to expel the fluid. In some cases the liquid may be blown out. Fig. 10 shows a modification, in which the head of the bore d is enlarged, and is not connected with the tubes c. In this form, the massaging &c. is performed by inserting a mandrel into the bore.
