In the arrangement shown, steam is supplied to the top of the heater through a central pipe from the inlet N', and passes away at N', with water of condensation, from the bottom. The ends of the heater may be closed by stuffing-box joints, as shown, or in any other r suitable way. The outer pipe of the heater may be flattened on the inner, to form two crescent-shaped spaces, the steam rising in one and descending in the other.
