Abstract

18,658. Chimkevitch, P. de. Oct. 18. Electrically-controlled fastenings. - Relates to electric apparatus in which anyone of a series of apparatus can be operated electrically without the interference of the others. The apparatus is described as applicable on wire or wireless circuits, and can be employed as a telegraph system, a telegraph call, a signal between ships &c.. for steering torpedoes or exploding mines, for connections between forts, for signalling between railway trains nnd trains and cabins, for operating signals, and also for controlling one of a number of door fastenings from a central position. Fig. 5 shows a view of the transmitter, in which a contact-disc 36 driven by clockwork is provided with a number of pins 38, which are cut down to half cylinders so as to make contact with spring 41, or to allow the said spring to pass according to the position of the studs. A second permanent contact-spring rubs on the periphery of the disc. A detent lever 29, with pawls 32, 35, is connected to the armature of the starting-magnet 24, and the lever 29 also carries a stop-arm 28 for the clockwork. The selecting-receiver is of similar construction, excepting in the contact-disc, and in that the magnet armature has an extension which, on the receipt of each impulse, trips a contact-spring. The contactdisc is double, the larger disc 44 having a number of studs 45 on which are mounted sleeves 47 carrying contact-springs 48, operating arms 49 and detent-lugs 53. The sleeves are provided with springs which normally throw the contact-springs outward against the pins 46, and the contacts are held in their closed or inner position by means of leaf-springs 51 having perforations in which the lugs 53 engage. The smaller disc carries a number of contact-plates, some of which are connected to studs and some of which have no contact ; in the latter case the stud is connected to the pin 46. Each arrangement is different, so that the circuit at only one receiving-station is completed. The receiver is provided with a tripping-stop, by which each spring 51 is tripped before reaching the position of the armature. On the completion of any selective signal, a local circuit is closed which either operates the required signal or mechanism or closes a local relay circuit, cutting out the selective mechanism aud connecting up the telegraphic or other signalling-apparatus with the line or coherer circuit in the case of wireless signalling.
