Abstract

17,319. Keithley, H. R. Sept. 29. Axle-trucks or undercarriages; under framing of bodies.-Relates to the construction of steel underframes. Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of one end of the underframing, Fig. 2 shows a cross-section through a bolster, and Fig. 3 an end view. The side and central sills are each composed of a single plate pressed to the flanged channel-section shown. The side sills may be stiffened by plates k and are riveted to the bolster beams. The central sill is bolted or riveted to the bolster beams, and is tied to the side sills by the floor plates l, l and the intermediate plate o. If desired, the central sill may be reversed in position, the web g being uppermost. Each bolster consists of a pair of Z-bars riveted to top and bottom plates m, n. The ends of the side and central sills may be tied together by Z-bars p, q, and a channel bar r.
