Abstract
14,000. Hufton, W. R. Aug. 4. Cricket.-Relates to means for fixing stumps in the ground. Each stump carries a ball A at its lower end, which is gripped between spring- pressed blocks B enclosed in a box D. The box is sunk in the ground, and is held firmly by projecting tongues E. The openings in the top of the box, through which the stumps pass, are sufficiently large to allow the stumps to be knocked over, as shown at the right of the Figure.
