11,117. Mende, F. June 19. Chucks.-A chuck for lathes, drilling-machines, &c. has a conical cap d screwing into a boss b, formed on or attached to the spindle. The cap is held centrally by a cylinder c fitting the coned end a of the spindle. The jaws e slide in, and are operated by, the cap, and are held angularly by engaging slots in the face of a ring g, secured on the end of the cylinder c by an annular plate i. The jaws have dovetails k to receive interchangeable face blocks h, suited to the size of the work. When a large drill or shaft is held, it may be gripped by the dovetails k.
