9130. Myall, A. May 17. Clutches ; countershafts.-The shaft C carries two loose pulleys A, B arranged for driving it at different speeds or in opposite directions. Upon a feather between the pulleys, is mounted a double-faced clutch N, adapted to engage with corresponding clutch parts on the pulley bosses. A sliding-bar Q, supported in brackets on the hangers, is provided with an arm T which engages a groove in the clutch and is kept central by springs X, X<1>. The bar is worked to and fro, to shift the clutch, by means of a rope passing over a pulley V, which carries a crank-pin coupled to it by a link W. The pulley is provided with pins c, which lock against the bar at the end of the stroke.
