Abstract

5917. Schaffstõdt, H. March 29. Condensers.-Relates to surface condensers in which steam and water flow in opposite directions, the cooling-water flowing in the narrow space between a series of two concentric pipes while the steam flows through the inner pipes and around the outer pipes. The head plates d, e are detachably fitted in the shell c, and the inner tubes g are secured in the plates d by stuffing- boxes f. The outer tubes h are secured in the plates e in any suitable manner. The steam enters at a, and part of it passes by the passage l to some of the inner tubes f, and then, being directed by baffle-plates y, passes up other tubes and down the remainder to the exit b. The other part of the steam flows around the outer tube h to the exit b. The water enters at x and leaves at z, and is also caused by the baffle-plates to flow upwards between some tubes and downwards between others.
