4756. Kutschera, H. March 13. Cylinders. - Relates to openwork cylinders adapted for various purposes. The cylinder is formed of spirally-wound wire s bent at intervals into eyes o through which pass rods a fixed in the cylinder faces d. The eyes determine the width of the slits, or openings between the wires, and this width can be varied by pressing the windings more or less closely together. The parts of the wire between the eyes may be given a different section by the use of suitable pressure, examples of such sections being shown in Figs. 5 and 7. A fine meshed sieve f may cover the first part of the cylinder when used for sifting, to act as a preliminary sifter for the fine particles. The cylinder faces may be made movable on their axis, and plates may be inserted between the eyes to increase the width of the openings.
