Abstract

2907. Ellis, G. V., and Westcott, W. M. Feb. 13. Drainage, sanitary.-All the sanitary fittings in the ship discharge through a non- return valve 6 into a reservoir 5 provided with a ventilating - pipe 6<a>. Ventilating - pipes from the various traps communicate with the pipe 6<a>. The reservoir is emptied through a pipe 9 in which is a bend 9<a> rising above the water level and which discharges preferably below the water. Fig. 2 shows the arrangements for automatically emptying the reservoir. When the latter is full, the float 19 is lifted, and the valve 15 opened to admit steam or some other fluid to the ejector nozzle 12. The end of the valve-lever carries a piston 22 moving in a dash-pot 21, its movements being regulated by the air and an adjustable friction-plate 24.
