Abstract

22,120. Bitter, C. Nov. 6. Spindle apparatus.- Means are provided for mounting wide - bored braiding-machine bobbins on to spinning- machine spindles, in order to obviate the necessity of re-winding the yarn before it is used in the braiding- machine. Several arrangements of springs are described for engaging with the bore of the bobbin. In Fig. 2, four blade springs Fare attached at one end between the cup D and the boss of the wharve B, and at the other end to a loose ring G. When the bobbin is forced on the springs, they are bent inwards as shown. In a modification, the springs are attached to a fixed ring or ferrule at the upper end and to a sliding ring or ferrule at the lower end, the long boss E of the wharve being dispensed with and the springs arranged parallel with the spindle for the greater part of their length. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the bobbin is held by the spring portions M, N of a tube K, the springs being formed by cutting longitudinal slits or openings in the tube and bending outwards the intervening strips.
