Abstract

21,110. Moorhouse, J. Oct. 23. Mules and twiners.-Relates to the driving- mechanism. Upon the countershaft E, Fig. 3, there are three pulleys F, I, K, side by side, of which F is fast upon the shaft, which also carries the band pulley G, I is fast upon a sleeve H carrying also the usual taking-in pulley J, and K is loose on the sleeve H. During the spinning operation, the strap U is partly upon each of the pulleys I and K, the band on the pulley G passing round a similar pulley on the rim shaft and round the usual guide-pulleys and a pulley on the tinroller shaft, so that the spindles are driven directly from the countershaft. During backing-off and winding, the strap U is partly upon each of the pulleys I and F, and, when the mule is stopped, it is wholly on the loose pulley F. By exchanging the pulley G and the corresponding one on the rim shaft for others of different size, the speed of the spindles during spinning and backing-off may be varied as desired. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the pulleys I and J are fast upon the shaft, while F and G are carried by a sleeve H. The strap U may be operated in the manner described in Specification No. 20,442, A.D. 1899. The Provisional Specification describes also the use of two or more sets of backing-off friction cones on the rim shaft.
