Abstract
15,730. Gabillard, L., and Rosseau, L. Aug. 1. Sand blast.-Relates to sand-ejecting apparatus for cleaning, scouring, and otherwise treating stone, metals, &c., applicable for cleaning the ornamental fronts of houses and the bottoms of ships and for engraving glass, porcelain, &c. The steam pipe A, Fig. 1, communicates by a valve F with an injector I, adapted to deliver a fishtail jet, to which the sand is led from the hopper K by a flexible pipe J<1> terminating in a three-way piece R having an open end e. To the injector is secured a taper pipe L, of rectangular or other section, to which is secured a continuation M, which forms the delivery nozzle and is enclosed in a casing N. The casing and the part M are perforated so that the steam may be withdrawn from the sand by the action of a steam jet apparatus O. When the apparatus is used for treating metals, or when compressed air is used instead of steam, this part of the apparatus is dispensed with. When applied for treating the fronts of buildings, a portable steam generator or reservoir of compressed air on the ground level communicates by a flexible pipe with a chamber, Fig. 2, mounted upon a suitable scaffolding and provided with branches for connection with one or more sand-blast apparatus.
