Abstract
13,305. Voltz, J. S. Nov. 28, A.D. 1898, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Saddle springs; guards, mud ; luggage-carriers.-Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a gentleman's bicycle. The saddle G is adjustably mounted on a bar i forming an extension of a curved flat spring H, the lower end of which is fixed to a bracket l carried by an adjustable clamp L on the saddle pillar D. A strap P, passing round the upper bar B or, in the case of a lady's bicycle, through a slot in an L-pin in the pillar D, limits the upward movement of the spring H. The spring serves also as a mud guard and luggage - carrier, but a short plate forming an additional guard may be clamped to it as indicated in dotted lines at T, or this plate may be fixed in the position r to support luggage within the spring H. In a modification, the spring is fixed to a bracket adjustably fixed to the stays E'.
