Abstract
12,695. Darby, H., and Punchard, W. C. June 17. Oil l a m p s.- Argand oil burners are designed to resemble incan descent gas burners in appearance. This resemblance is increased if the upper edges of the flames, which are similar to incandescent mantles in shape, is concealed by the use of cylindrical chimneys which are semi-transparent or opaque above the line V V. The cylindrical burner body B of wire gauze or perforated metal, which carries the gallery or chimney holder C, the burner cone D, and the flange G for contracting the air-supply passage a, is screwed upon the mount A which support the wick tubes E, F. The central air supply is forced to traverse a perforated cone H<1>, which is so arranged that the flame spreader H<2> occupies the position shown in Fig. 2 relatively to the burner cone D and the wick. Slight variations may be made in the shape and relative position of the cone H<1>, and in the method of supporting the flame spreader H<2>; perforations D<x> may be formed in the lower part of the burner cone D for the purpose of keeping the burner cool.
