Acetylene lamps.-Relates to acetylene generators in which the carbide is automatically supplied, and especially to generators used in combination with or forming part of lamps, such as table lamps. The water is contained in the base h, from which proceeds a cylinder b, in the centre of which is a carbide receptacle c. The lower end of the receptacle c is closed by a rubber valve v, which is opened by the lower end of a rod d forced downwards by a spring o. The carbide falls upon a perforated cover i in a vessel z. The generated gas passes by a filter f to a space g, from which it passes to the burner or burners through the passage a formed in the spindle d. As the pressure increases, the flexible diaphragm m is forced upwards, and carries with it the spindle d; the valve v then closes, thus cutting off further supply of carbide until the pressure again diminishes, when the diaphragm falls. The spindle d may be held in its inoperative position by a nut t. The pressure also forces water up the tube r, and, should the pressure become too great, forces out the plug s, so that water, and afterwards gas, can escape.
