Abstract

10,013. Wilkinson, W. May 12. Utilizing waste metal tubing.-Metal strips to be employed in the manufacture of buttons, eyelets, &c. are formed by cutting open disused boiler or other tubes, and reducing the divided tube to a flat strip of the desired size by rolling. Or the tube may be drawn to the desired diameter and gauge before slitting. The slitting may be effected by a cutter A, Fig. 1, on a mandrel B, which is drawn through the tube C while placed against the die-plate D of a draw-bench. Or two cutting- rollers F, F<1>, Fig. 3, on the head E<1> of a mandrel E may be used to cut and open the tube. The tube is annealed and pickled or otherwise cleaned after slitting.
