Abstract

8361. Bell, L. April 21. Air, cooling.-Relates to apparatus for the supply of cool dry air for buildings. The space between the insulated cylindrical or other form of casing A and the central shaft B is divided into two spiral passages by two spiral partitions, of which the upper one D is made of thin copper or other good conductor covered with fine meshed netting or other fabric E. Water from the upper tank G flows down over this netting to the tanK J, whence it is returned to the upper tank by a chain pump O. Air from a fan &c. is driven through the two passages, in one of which it evaporates the water on the netting and thereby cools the air in the dry passage C. The chain pump is driven by gearing from a fan V, to which the air supply is controlled by the height of the water in the lower tank J acting through a float T and dampers in the air supply pipe U. Fresh water is supplied by a ball cock to the upper tank. The apparatus may be made in two or more parts, placed one on the other.
