J. W. EGAN. REFRIGERATOR.
No. 348,115. Patented Aug 24. 1886.
- 1 forms a communication between-the body A UNITED STATES P TENT OFFICE.
JAMES W. EGAN, E PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA,
REFRIGERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,115, dated August 24-, 1886.
Application filed July 2-2, 1886.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LJAMES W. EGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing'in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful In1- whereot is to supply a refrigerator with dry.
purified air and circulate the same through the .refrigerator, this being accomplished by means substantially as hereinafter set forth and defishelves or trays, doors, &c., and'having chamber, B, for-an ice-ehcst, O, the latter benitely claimed.
Referring to the drawing, A epresents the body of a refrigerator, which is provided with ing of any suitable construction, closed on all sides, and interiorly accessible by means of a lid, it being seen that the chest is somewhat smaller than the chamber B, thus leaving airpassages 'Darouud the chest, the same being chamber Bisa fan, F, which is operated by'a cooled, owing to the ice or other frigorific me-,
dium contained'in the chest 0. 1 Supported-within the-body A, below the cold-air chamber B, is a box 'E,"containiug charcoal or other material suitable for purifying'air, said box being perforated, so that it and the chamber B; In the upperpart of the suitable clock-worker other motor, the same, in the'prese-n t/case, being connected with the lid Gt, whereby the motor is readily accessible for winding and other purposes' H represents a' pipe, spout, or outlet for cold airfrom the chamber B intoithe'body A,
Serial N 0. 208,721. (No model.) J
said pipe being connected with said chamber in any suitable manner.
The operation is as follows: The chest is supplied with ice and the box E with airpurifying material. The fan is set'in motion and air in the chamber B driven through the pipe H into and through the body A, and then forced through the box E, where it is purified, into the chamber B, where it is cooled, in which condition of purification and refrigeration it is directed. into the body and again returned through the box and chamber to said body, so that there is a constant circulation of pure dry cold air throughout therefrigera tor.
claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A refrigerator having a body with a cold- 'air chamber, B, and an ice-chest, O, in, said chamber, a fan, anair-purifier box, E, and a cold-air outlet Hfsaid purifier-box E'forming'a communication between the body of the Having thus described my invention, what I refrigerator and said cold-air chamber, sub-,
stantially as and for the purpose set forth;
, 2. A refrigerator having a body with acoldair chamber and an ice-chest therein,'a fan and motor, an air-purifying box, and a cold-air outlet, said boxbeing perforated and forming a communication between the body of the refrigerator and said cold-air chamber, the fan and motor being connected with-the lid of the body, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
