Abstract
4424. Goss, J. P., and Barton, J. A. Feb. 28. Ploughs; hoes, horse; manuring. - Relates to an implement for use in planting potatoes and like crops. The implement is first employed to make trenches and distribute manure therein, and then to cover in the trenches when the potatoes have been planted. The implement consists of the frame of an ordinary horse hoe on which is mounted a manure-distrihuting hopper C of ordinary construction, the shaft of which is driven by belt gearing from a pulley F secured to one of the road wheels. The shanks L of the hoe blades M are adjustable along a cross-bar B, and are fitted with ridging-shares at each side, consisting of a portion G<1> riveted to the shank L and of a wing G hinged to the part G<1> and adjustable by means of bars which are clamped to an arm l fixed to the shank L. By suitably adjusting the tools on the cross-bar B, the implement is adapted to perform the operations referred to above.
