The invention is shown applied to a rear-driving cycle, but the method of mounting the crank axle is stated to be applicable also to " high " bicycles. The crank-axle bracket consists of a cross-piece with a central flange A<1>, Fig. 3, fitted with tubes A<2>, with ball bearings carrying two sleeves D which are secured together by a central rod D' on which the cap D<4> is fixed. The sleeves D are provided with lugs to which the pedal cranks D<10> are fixed by pins D<8> which form bearings for connecting-rods G, through which is actuated gear-wheel M mounted in adjustable double ball bearings A<6> and gearing with a pinion B' on the hub.
