Miners' safety lamps. - I n t h i s acetylene lamp the water chamber w is utilized as a shield or bonnet around the gauze f, and is connected with the calcium-carbide chamber a by a pipe t, t<2>, provided with a tap t<1>, and terminating in a nozzle or contraction t<3> within the porous or perforated tube a<1> of the chamber a. On its way to the burner d the gas passes through asbestos or other filtering - material c, which also prevents the gas from lighting back. Taps, not shown, are provided whereby the gas supply to the burner may be controlled, and the gas permitted to escape, when desired, to the open air. Small safety channels or vents are formed in the filling-plug w<1> of the water chamber w.
