Abstract
20,704. Bolton, F. Oct. 1. Cans and canisters.-A vessel which contains food has an elastic band C fitted over the joint between the lid and cover. The air in the vessel is expelled by cooking the contents while in the vessel, or is withdrawn by placing the vessel in a vacuum chamber when the contents are to remain uncooked. The band acts as a non-return valve, and seals the joint. The lid may have a flange D, and a similar flange may be formed on the body, both flanges serving to keep the band in place. Half the width of the band may be cemented to or gripped by the body or lid.
