Abstract
18,368. Lygo, F. W. Aug. 26. Handles, fixing to stocks. -The handle of a brush or broom &c. is fixed to the stock by a ferrule made in two pieces a<2>, a<3> hinged together at two opposite points c<3>. Spikes s are formed at the bottom of the ferrule on the outside. The ferrule is pinched together till the edges a', a<5> meet, and is then introduced into the hole in the stock. The handle is then forced into the ferrule, which opens out at the bottom so that the spikes s enter the stock. A nail may be driven through the ferrule into the handle, or the upper end of the ferrule may be screwed externally to receive a screwed ring slipped over the end of the handle.
