Abstract

18,187. Crossingham, T. E., and Hobbs, T. F. Aug. 24. S a w i n g.-Relates to a guard which is lifted automatically by the pressure of the material advancing to be cut. The material comes in contact with an antifriction pulley G on the end of a lever F. On the axis of this lever is a pulley segment E from which a cord passes to another pulley segment B on the axis of the lever C. To the end of the lever C is fixed the saw guard A. The segment B is of sufficient weight to act as a counterbalance to the guard A. A slight pressure of the material on the pulley G is thus sufficient to raise the guard A. In modifications, the lever C is arranged at rightangles to the saw, or two parallel levers are substituted for the single lever C in Fig. 1. The latter arrangement raises the saw guard by a parallel movement, and is specially adapted for large saws.
