Photo-mechanical printing.-A design is indented on a thin sheet of copper, brass, or other ductile metal with a stylus, and is filled up by use of the stylus, or by rubbing either surface of the sheet. A wax or other cast may then be made from the sheet, and improved with a graver or otherwise, after which an electrotype or cast in fusible metal is made from it. White plaster casts from the plates may be photographed, for the production of printing-blocks.
