Abstract

17,161. McMillin, F. C. Aug. 9. Switches for opening and closing a lamp circuit at predetermined times. A diagrammatic view of the switches and their connected arrangements is shown in Fig. 3. A switch lever B, pivoted at one end b, is actuated by means of armatures c<2>, c<3> of a double-wound magnet A, such armatures being connected to each other hy a stem c' and to the lever B by spring-controlled links. Switch or contact blades F, insulated from one another, are mounted upon a rod f connected to the lever B, which also carries a contact-rod b<1> designed to connect two contact-pieces b<2>, b<3> placed in the line circuit. The blades F make and break contact, at predetermined times, with spring plates D, E in the lamp and line circuits respectively. Upon the hour stem of a clock are two dials g, g<1> having suitably-placed recesses for receiving projections on spring-controlled levers g<6>, g<7>, which carry insulated contact rolls or plates 4, 5. When the projection on one of the levers g<6> . g<7> is released, the roll or plate on such lever completes the circuit between a contact-plate h and a corresponding piece g<2> or g, so that the solenoid a or a<1> energizes the magnet core and thus causes the lever B to be operated. As soon as the lamp circuit has been closed, the rod b<1> leaves the pieces b<2>, b<3> and so breaks the magnet circuit. The length of time during which the lamps are to burn may be regulated by relatively adjusting the dials.
