16,194. Rakestraw, R. R. July 25. Pencils and crayons.-Relates to pencils and crayons of the class in which a paper casing is employed, which may be removed in strips for sharpening purposes. The superposed layers of paper are united together by some weak adhesive to strengthen the casing, and notches are made at the ends of the weakened lines at the edge of the sheet to facilitate the removal of the strips. The weak adhesive employed may be a resin or gum resin dissolved in a solvent such as benzene, a solution of india-rubber, or thin glue. The outer edge may in some cases be further secured by means of an adherent such as glue or dextrin, which becomes dry on heating.
