Abstract

14,199. Cryer, T., [trading as Deanhead Chemical Co.]. June 27. Ammonia; ammonium chloride.-Dolomite is decomposed by hydrochloric acid, a mixture of magnesium and calcium chlorides being obtained. The chlorides, (or a solution of magnesium chloride otherwise obtained), are heated with a paste of slaked lime, or of slaked magnesian lime, or of a mixture of both, whereby insoluble magnesium hydrate and a solution of calcium chloride are obtained. After separation, the magnesium hydrate may be distilled with ammonium sulphate to obtain free ammonia and magnesium sulphate ; and the calcium-chloride solution may be also treated with ammonium sulphate, to obtain ammonium chloride and calcium sulphate. Or another chloride, such as of zinc, may be mixed with the calcium chloride in the latter case, to obtain a mixed ammonium and zinc chloride in addition to the calcium sulphate.
