Abstract

13,193. Williams, A. S. June 13. Luggage-carriers.-A tubular drum a, Fig. 1, adapted to pass over the fixed tube b and to slide thereon, is provided with a helical groove. A spindle passes through the tube b, and is connected atone end to a coiled spring f and at the other end to the drum a by means of a supplementary spindle. A sleeve h, screwed and split at each end, takes over the handle-bar and is provided with holes for the passage of the cord n. One of these holes k receives the end of a guide-spring m, Fig. 2, which fits into the groove in the drum a. Corresponding holes are formed in the handle-bar q. The hollow longitudinally-divided handle o is secured upon the sleeve h by means of screwed caps p, g. The spring f is contained in the cap g which is closed by the disc w. One end of the cord n is attached to the drum a, and is adapted to wind along the helical groove in the drum. The opposite end of the cord n passes out through a hole in the handle-bar, and is provided with a ring. Hooks are clipped to the handle-bar for the engagement of the ring. The parcel &c. is placed on the handle-bar, Fig. 9, and the cord n pulled out, thereby winding up the spring f, and causing the drum a to assume a position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The cord is passed round the parcel &c., and the ring engages the hook on the handle-bar. Upon releasing the cord, it is again wound upon the drum a through the action of the spring f.
