Abstract

9328. Botterill, J., and Craven, R. E. P. April 22. Lifts, well doors for. The cage has attached to it a triangular guide 2 which, during the passage of the cage, enters between and forces apart two pulleys 9 and 14, the former of which is fixed to the frame 11 and the latter to a quadrant 16 pivoted at 17. The teeth of the quadrant engage with a pinion 21 fixed to the spindle of a drum 24 to which a rope 26 is attached leading over pulleys 28 and 29 to a well door. The cage in passing thus first rocks the quadrant in one direction to lift the door, and then the latter as it descends under gravity causes it to resume its original position again. The quadrant may be replaced by a pivoted arm connected to the drum by a rope. Two or more ropes may be led from the drum to operate two or more doors simultaneously.
