Chemical And Physical Treatments For Wood And The Like
(AREA)
Abstract
7104. Lebioda, G. F. March 23. W o o d, hardening.- The pieces of wood a are placed on a press table c, heated by a steam coil d or other means, and are separated by metal plates b. Plates e, resting on friction rollers and heated by steam pipes g or other means, are connected together by screw spindles h having left and right hand screwthreads at opposite ends and adapted to be operated by hand-wheels j and gearing i to cause the plates to approach or recede from one another. An upper press-plate k, heated by a steam coil l or other means, is connected to two pistons m working in hydraulic cylinders n, whereby a strong pressure may be exerted on the wood. Between the cylinders n another hydraulic apparatus is arranged for raising the plate. Metal rules q are used according as the wood has a greater or less width than the plate k.
