Abstract

6722. Lengweiler, W., and Kuhn, F. W. March 19. Ring and traveller frames.-Relates to improvements o n the invention described in Specification No. 2454, A.D. 1897. The speed of the ring rail, when building different parts of the cop, is inversely proportional to the periphery of the cop and directly proportional to the height of the cop chase, the extent of the lift being increased during the winding of the cop bottom and diminished during the winding of the body of the cop. Fig. 8<b> is a diagram from which a cam drum may be constructed for operating the ring rail, the drum being moved longitudinally over the extremity of the lever it operates, or being otherwise arranged in order to bring into operation the different sections of the cam drum represented by the vertical lines R<1> to R<14> as the various corresponding sections of the cop are built up. The cop is divided into sections containing equal amounts of yarn, and the lines W-Z and M-27 in the diagram represent respectively the least and greatest radii of the corresponding sections of the cam drum. With a cop built up in the manner described, the amount through which the lift will require to be moved in shifting the winding from one section of the cop to the next will vary in amount according to whether the cop is more or less completely wound. A method of calculating this amount of variation from the normal lift is given in the Specification, and this variation, which is reckoned + or - according as to whether it is greater or less than the normal, is set off in the diagram below or above a horizontal line W-Y, so that a curved line W-Z is obtained. The required lift or eccentricity of the different sections of the cam drum are then measured from the curved line W-Z to obtain the line M-27, which therefore represents the extreme eccentricities of the cam sections. Mechanism is described for moving the cam drum, or the effective point on which it operates, longitudinally for bringing the different sections of the drum successively into operation. When the above-described cam mechanism is employed, certain of the chain deflecting apparatus described in the prior Specification may be dispensed with.
