Abstract

1403. Deans, J. W., Foster, W. D., and Stray, A. F. Jan. 18. Stands for bicycles &c. A supporting-appliance is formed on a rod h which can be secured in any position in a tube e by a set-screw e*. The tube e is supported by a tripod consisting of rods a pivoted at a<1> to a collar b secured by a set-screw b<1> to the tube e, and connected by links c to a loose collar d on the tube e. A stop e<2> prevents the collar d from sliding off the tube. In a modification, the lower collar is fixed, the rods being pivoted thereto and connected by links to the upper loose collar. The supporting-appliance, in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, consists of a rest g adapted to receive the bottom bracket and having a projection g' to engage the chain-stays. Forked arms g<2> formed on the rest g carry a U- shaped piece g<3> adapted to receive the bottom bar, which is secured therein by a piece k hinged to one of the arms g<2> and adapted to be turned into engagement with the other arm. Bars i pivoted to the forks g', and prevented from falling by stops j, engage the front wheel as shown. The parts of the stand which engage the cycle frame are padded to prevent scratching. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, arms g<4> formed on the rest g are bent as shown to engage the saddle-post, a fork g<8> being pivoted to one of the arms g<4> so that it can be turned down to engage pins g<10> formed on the other arm so as to secure the saddle-post in position.
