Abstract

30,819. Collmer, O. H. Dec. 30. Ball bearings for vehicles. Fig. 2 shows the invention as applied to a bicycle wheel. The cups B are screwed into the hub A as far as the flanges permit. The cones E, E<1> are directly secured to the fork ends and are connected by the hollow axle sleeve D which has opposite threads on its ends. The adjustment is effected by rotating the wheel after it has been locked to the hub by the insertion of a tool such as is shown in dotted lines. The adjustment may be looked by pins H, forced apart by the pointed screw I, a support K for the pins H and screw I being provided within the axle sleeve. It will be seen that the wheel can be removed from the forks or its position adjusted without interfering with the bearings. Further, the balls can be removed and cleaned and the cups B replaced without readjustment being rendered necessary.
