Abstract

28,709. Mahnke, G., and Kraft, C. Dec. 4. Incandescent gas lamps.-A ring E on the upper end of the chimney A carries a pivoted flap C and an igniting - pellet J of platinum sponge. The counterbalance weight G is so arranged as to close the flap when the lamp is not in use. Thus the gas, when turned on accumulates beneath the flap C, until it is ignited by the pellet J, and the ascending products of combustion tilt the flap into the position indicated by the dotted lines, the igniting-pellet being placed, as far as possible, out of the path of the escaping products of combustion. The space between the burner and the lower end of the chimney is occupied by wire gauze B.
