Abstract

26,544. Forbes, J. Nov. 13. Driving-mechanism is arranged so as to permit forward and backward driving and to allow the driving-mechanism to over-run the cranks. The chain-wheel Y is loosely mounted on a disc A keyed to the crank axle and provided with a slot a having oppositely-eccentric surfaces a<1> and containing a ball c, which grips the chain-wheel during forward or backward driving, but allows it to rotate freely when the cranks are held in a horizontal position. Slots a<2> containing balls c' which grip during forward motion are formed in the disc A, to reduce the strain on the ball c when forward driving. A disc secured to the wheel Y keeps the balls in position.
