Abstract
16,777. Macnab, J. July 15. Blasting - cartridges; blasting.-The cartridge charge consists of meal or granular guncotton or other cellulose explosive. The case a has tightlyfitting caps f, and is preferably made of tinned iron or steel with overlapping edges. Tubes e containing ammonia are enclosed in the charge. A tamping-pellet i is made of common salt, ammonium oxalate, or other salt, enclosed in a.separate case or in the cartridge case and provided with a central hole for the fuze. This safety tamping may be used with cartridges containing finest grain or meal gunpowder. Chlorate of potash or other oxygen-yielding equivalent enclosed in a case may be placed in the explosive charge.
