Abstract

15,797. Zschorner, K. A. July 2. Processes; materials, fibrous.-Peat is treated under pressure for from ten to fourteen hours and at the ordinary temperature (4‹ C. to 25‹ C.) in a two per cent. solution of caustic soda, after which it is washed and bleached and again treated in a similar manner in a one per cent. solution of caustic soda ; or the second treatment with alkali may precede the bleaching operation. The bleaching is effected with calcium or sodium hypochlorite of 1‹ to 2‹ BÚ. at the ordinary temperature and under pressure as in the treatment with alkali.
