A recess 6 is situated under the end 1 adjacent to the band 5 of the ligature, so that, by tightening this band, the free end of the reed can be adjusted. In another form, shown in Fig. 3, an indiarubber pad 7, or a spring, is situated underneath the other band 3, which can thus be used for adjusting the reed as before.
