Abstract

12,913. Legg, R. May 25. Cigarette-making machines.-Relates to rotary cutting-knives for continuous cigarette machines. Instead of moving the knife laterally to keep pace with the cigarette rod during the act of cutting, the cutter disc e bears two helical blades e', the axis of the disc being turned so as to set the blades in a plane normal to the cigarette rod. The slotted wheol d which constitutes a guide and support for the rod moves with the same peripheral velocity as the knife-wheel. By this construction the cutting- portion of the blade moves on with the cigarette so as to effect a clean cut.
